Elena is a passionate artist and maker who paints, draws, creates jewellery and ceramic pieces…
Tell us a little about yourself, your practice, your processes…
Art has always been a part of me. My one line drawings are a piece of me. I sit down with a pen and paper and let the process take me on a journey. I don’t go in it with a design in mind, I go in with an emotion.
My jewellery and ceramics are an extension of my paintings and drawings. My passion is about sharing art with everyone, I want art to be accessible for all.
What are you working on at the moment?
I am working on a few exciting projects. I am launching two new collections with my jewellery brand and I am also launching a ceramics business. I want to bring art to the hearts and homes of people. I believe that art does not need to be appreciated inside a gallery.
Describe a typical workday – whatever that means for you.
No day is the same. Each day I am working on one of my four businesses – all creative. I am either creating designs for my freelance clients, designing pieces for my jewellery brand, experimenting with ceramics or painting while listening to crime podcasts. I love waking up not knowing what the day holds.
What or who inspires you to create?
My emotions inspire me to create. I have always painted what I feel rather than what I see.
My work is inspired by two artists: Picasso and Matisse. I have loved and admired these artists for as long as I can remember.
What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received?
I grew up with my grandfather always believing in me which was very powerful. He would always tells me “What the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.” I never felt like I couldn’t achieve anything.
