An impression of The You Yangs. (Wurdi Youan – possibly meaning ‘big hill’.)
I worked in the south-east of Melbourne for some years. Sighting The You Yangs on my M1 drive back signaled home for me – becoming an important landmark where I breathed a sigh of relief and began to relax.
I’ve tried to capture an impression of these small mountains on a hot and dry summer evening using gesso for texture, earthy coloured acrylic paints and pastel work to create some surprise shades. My tools were palette knives, brushes, dabbing rags and fingers.
