Artist Statement:
This society makes some of us invisible, hiding our hardship behind closed doors of isolation and inattention.
It takes words to free us, to protect us. I am weaving my words here; weaving together my own truth with the vocabulary of the system – writing my son and myself into being within the bureaucracy in order to build us supports.
It seems fragile, this shield of paper, and it is.
It’s also the strongest protection I can offer us – strong enough to move mountains when we need it to.
