Poppy (15) by Rebecca Kilpatrick
Medium: Acrylic on board
Dimensions: 33 x 33 x 3.5cm
This work is a response to taking a macro view on the subject of the ‘still life’. In classical European
still life paintings of figurative arrangements of food and plants, the intention of the work was to gesture
to motifs that required the audience to reflect on human experience in relation to mortality and divinity. In this work, I ask for you to focus on the material qualities of the plants themselves, in relation to texture and light. This examination considers the still life as the qualities of the arrangement, not just the overall aesthetic value of the composition.
