Threads of Moss by Jordan Brown
Dimensions: 2.5cm x 2.5cm x 1.5cm
After five days in takayna, I was struck by the tactility of the old growth forests and how people loved to run their fingers through the moss on the trees. I use embroidery – a medium that requires constant touch when I am making – to encourage gallery goers to engage with my artwork tactilely in a similar way that we experience forests.
With the Tasmanian and Victorian state governments currently pushing for anti-protest laws against activists who protect our native forests, embroidered moss may be all that we will be able to touch of our forests in the future.
