Artwork statement:
Early explorer Thomas Mitchell was so entranced with the vista of lush pastures in parts of western Victoria that he used the term ‘Australia Felix’ in his journal in 1836. The Latin term is translated as ‘fortunate Australia’ or ‘happy Australia’. So much of our land is much depleted, but every year it’s inspiring to witness the groundswell of improved protection of land and the imaginative ideas being devised by people in many walks of life. Long may this renewed passion continue to grow.
