Vale Darling R by Mary-Ellen Belleville

The conservation of our environment is what this diorama/collage tries to convey. We are the guardians of our environs – what is the inheritance for the next generation? I ponder the role we each play in protecting our reserves of water in this driest of continents. The catastrophe of the Darling River is but one example of loss on multiple levels. Echoing Millais’ Ophelia – a tragedy that conjures emotions of loss and distress, I have used upcycled fabrics, thread, twigs to convey how precious – as delicate as a dragon-fly wing – is this land we love and treasure.
