Built c1625, the Swedish warship Vasa sank on its maiden voyage just metres from the jetty. To the horror of onlookers, the highly embellished wooden ship was destroyed by a gust of wind. Relics found in 1961 included clothing, weapons, coins, tools. I hope to mimic the sea encrusted treasures that survived due to the extreme cold waters in which she lay. My daily beach walks yield all manner of treasures that appeal to me for not only their textures, colours, but also the imperfections.
